Industry Engagement Policy Pack

Industry engagement is one of the most substantive changes introduced by the Standards for RTOs 2025, and it is an area where many RTOs are still catching up. It is no longer sufficient to conduct an annual survey or maintain a list of industry contacts. ASQA now expects RTOs to demonstrate that genuine, ongoing engagement with industry is actively shaping the way training is designed, delivered, and assessed.
 
The obligation exists because the purpose of vocational education is employment outcomes. Students enrol in nationally recognised training because they expect to graduate with skills that are current, relevant, and valued by employers. When industry engagement is tokenistic or poorly documented, that expectation is at risk. Training content drifts from current practice, assessment tasks lose their connection to real workplace requirements, and students complete qualifications that do not reflect what industry actually needs.
 
Effective industry engagement requires a structured approach. Your RTO needs documented strategies for how it will engage with industry, clear processes for capturing and recording the outcomes of those engagements, and a demonstrable link between what industry tells you and the decisions your RTO makes about its training and assessment strategies, resources, and delivery methods. ASQA will look for evidence of this link, not just evidence that engagement occurred.
 
This policy pack gives your RTO the documented framework to implement, record, and act on industry engagement consistently across your scope of registration. When implemented, it supports compliance with clauses 1.2 and 4.4 of the Standards for RTOs 2025, as well as the associated Compliance Requirements.
