Performance Management Policy Pack
Performance management is one of the most underleveraged tools available to an RTO. When it is done well, it strengthens the quality of your training and assessment practice, supports staff retention, builds a culture of continuous improvement, and gives your RTO a documented record of the actions it has taken to develop and support its people. When it is done poorly, or not at all, the gaps become visible in audit findings, staff turnover, and the quality of outcomes your students experience.
Effective performance management in an RTO context is not simply an annual review conversation. It is an ongoing, structured process built on clear expectations, honest communication, and a genuine commitment to supporting individual growth. Managers and their direct reports need a shared framework for setting objectives, monitoring performance, identifying development needs, and addressing concerns in a way that is fair, consistent, and procedurally defensible.
The Standards for RTOs 2025 require that your RTO actively supports the ongoing development of all staff, not just trainers and assessors meeting their CPD obligations. The expectation is that every person in your organisation has access to learning and development opportunities that are relevant to their role and that your RTO can demonstrate it is investing in the capability of its people. Performance management is the mechanism through which that investment is planned, delivered, and recorded.
Documentation matters here for the same reason it matters everywhere in RTO compliance. When a performance concern escalates, when a staff member disputes a decision, or when ASQA asks how your RTO monitors and supports its workforce, your performance management records are the evidence you rely on. Informal conversations and undocumented agreements offer no protection in any of those situations.
This policy pack gives your RTO the documented framework to implement performance management consistently, fairly, and in line with your obligations under the Standards. When implemented, it supports compliance with clauses 4.1, 4.2, and 4.3 of the Standards for RTOs 2025, as well as the associated Compliance Requirements. It includes the policies, procedures, forms, and templates your team needs to conduct and record performance management in a structured, auditable way across your entire workforce.
All documents are fully editable and rebrand-ready. Add your RTO logo, colours, and details and your policy is ready to implement.
