RPL Equivalency Mapping TEMPLATE

The CWTS RPL Equivalency Mapping Template is a fully editable, rebrand-ready template aligned to the Standards for RTOs 2025. Designed for RTO trainers, assessors, and compliance officers responsible for conducting skills recognition assessments, it provides a structured framework for systematically comparing a student's existing qualifications and units of competency against the requirements of the training product for which they are seeking recognition, identifying areas of equivalence, partial coverage, and gap that will inform the RPL assessment pathway.
 
Equivalency mapping is the analytical foundation of a rigorous RPL process. Before an assessor can make a valid judgement about whether a student's prior learning meets the requirements of a current unit of competency, they must have a documented, structured comparison that identifies precisely where the student's existing credentials align with the current training package requirements, where they partially align, and where genuine gaps exist that must be addressed through additional evidence or assessment. Without this analysis, RPL decisions are based on assumption rather than evidence, and the resulting competency judgements cannot be defended as meeting the principles of assessment or the rules of evidence required by the Standards for RTOs 2025.
 
This template provides a consistent, auditable framework for equivalency mapping across all RPL applications your RTO receives. It aligns to clauses 1.4, 1.6, and 1.7 of the Standards for RTOs 2025 and was developed in conjunction with the Skills Recognition and Credit Policy Procedure. It includes the following:
