General Staff Management Policy Pack
Your RTO's performance is a direct reflection of the people you employ. The quality of your training and assessment outcomes, the experience your students have, the strength of your compliance position, and the reputation your RTO builds in the sector all trace back to the decisions you make about who you bring into your organisation and how you manage them once they are there.
General staff management in an RTO context carries obligations that go beyond standard employment practice. The Standards for RTOs 2025 require that every person involved in the operations of your RTO, whether in a training, assessment, administrative, or management capacity, has the qualifications, experience, and personal attributes necessary to perform their role effectively. That obligation begins at recruitment and continues through induction, performance monitoring, and ongoing support.
Recruitment and selection processes must be structured to identify candidates who genuinely meet the requirements of the role, not just those who present well at interview. Induction must give new staff the knowledge they need to operate within your RTO's systems and compliance framework from day one. Performance management must be documented, consistent, and applied fairly across the organisation. And where performance concerns arise, your RTO must have a clear, defensible process for addressing them in a way that is procedurally fair and traceable.
Staff management obligations also connect directly to your fit and proper person requirements. The Standards for RTOs 2025 require that your RTO can demonstrate that the people responsible for its operations meet the standards of integrity, competency, and accountability that the regulatory framework demands. Undocumented or informal staff management practices create gaps in that demonstration that are visible during audit.
This policy pack gives your RTO the documented framework to manage general staff recruitment, induction, performance, and conduct consistently and in line with your obligations. When implemented, it supports compliance with clauses 2.5, 3.1, 4.1, and 4.2 of the Standards for RTOs 2025, as well as the associated Compliance Requirements. It includes the policies, procedures, forms, and templates your team needs to manage staff effectively in a structured, auditable way.
