Standards of Assessment Guide

The CWTS Standards of Assessment Guide is a fully editable, rebrand-ready guide aligned to the Standards for RTOs 2025. Designed for RTO trainers, assessors, and administrators responsible for preparing students for competency-based assessment, it provides a comprehensive, student-facing reference that explains the assessment process, the evidence requirements, and the rights and responsibilities of both students and assessors before any assessment activity commences, ensuring that every student enters the assessment process with a clear and accurate understanding of what is expected of them and what they can expect from your RTO.
 
Informed students are better assessment participants. When students understand what competency-based assessment requires, what types of evidence are acceptable, how assessment judgements are made, and what their options are if they disagree with an outcome, they engage with the assessment process more effectively and are less likely to raise disputes that arise from misunderstanding rather than genuine assessment failure. The Standards for RTOs 2025 require that assessment is conducted fairly and that students have access to the information they need to participate fully in their own assessment. Providing that information through a structured, documented guide is a straightforward way to meet that obligation consistently across every student and every assessment context your RTO manages.
 
This guide provides a comprehensive, auditable framework for student assessment preparation across all programs and units of competency on your scope.
