2025 Marketing and Promotions Policy Pack

Marketing and promotional obligations are among the most frequently misunderstood compliance requirements in the VET sector. Many RTOs focus their compliance effort on training and assessment practice and treat marketing as a business function that sits outside the regulatory framework. It does not. Every claim your RTO makes about its programs, its outcomes, its qualifications, and its services is subject to the Standards for RTOs 2025, and inaccurate or misleading marketing is an audit finding that reflects on the integrity of your entire operation.

 

The Standards for RTOs 2025 require that all marketing and promotional materials are accurate, factual, and not misleading. This applies to your website, your social media, your printed materials, your agent arrangements, and any third party that markets your programs on your behalf. Outcome claims must be supportable. Qualification names must be correct and current. Any reference to government funding, recognition, or endorsement must be accurate. And the information you provide to prospective students through your marketing must be consistent with the pre-enrolment information obligations your RTO carries under the same Standards. A prospective student who makes an enrolment decision based on inaccurate marketing has a legitimate grievance, and your RTO is accountable for that.

 

Marketing compliance also requires your RTO to have a documented review process. Materials must be checked before they are published, monitored while they are live, and updated when the information they contain changes. Training package updates, scope changes, and fee adjustments all trigger a marketing review obligation that many RTOs manage informally until an audit makes the gap visible. This policy pack gives your RTO the documented framework to develop, approve, monitor, and review marketing and promotional activities consistently and in line with your obligations. When implemented, it supports compliance with clauses 2.1 and 2.2 of the Standards for RTOs 2025, as well as the associated Compliance Requirements.
