Trainer/Assessor Competency Matrix TEMPLATE
The CWTS Trainer and Assessor Competency Matrix is a fully editable, rebrand-ready template aligned to the Standards for RTOs 2025. Designed for RTO managers and compliance officers responsible for demonstrating and documenting the competency of each trainer and assessor against the specific units of competency they are authorised to deliver and assess, it provides a structured framework for mapping individual trainer and assessor qualifications, vocational experience, and TAE credentials to your RTO's scope of registration in a single, auditable reference document.
The competency matrix is one of the most frequently requested documents during an ASQA audit, and one of the most commonly found to be incomplete or out of date. Clause 3.1 of the Standards for RTOs 2025 requires your RTO to ensure that every trainer and assessor has the vocational competency and training and assessment competency necessary for the units they deliver and assess. Demonstrating that requirement across an entire training workforce, across multiple qualifications and units, requires more than a collection of individual credential files. It requires a consolidated, structured record that gives an auditor immediate visibility of who is authorised to deliver and assess what, on what basis, and with what evidence supporting that authorisation.
This template provides a consistent, auditable framework for competency mapping across your entire training workforce and scope of registration. It aligns to clauses 3.1, 3.2, and 3.3 of the Standards for RTOs 2025 and was developed in conjunction with the Trainer and Assessor Competency Policy Procedure, Trainer and Assessor Register, Supervision Arrangements Declaration Form, and Trainer and Assessor Risk Assessment Form. It includes the following:
- Trainer and assessor identification and current qualification details fields
- Unit of competency authorisation mapping section across your full scope
- Vocational competency evidence and currency confirmation fields for each unit
- TAE qualification and currency status recording section
- Supervision arrangement notation fields where full independence has not yet been established
- Version control and review date fields for ongoing currency maintenance and audit trail purposes
